  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Pink and orange food coloring
  • Royal icing for decorations (color of choice)
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl; set aside.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half; color one half with pink food coloring and the other with orange.
  6. Wrap dough portions in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out heart shapes; place on baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are light golden; cool on wire rack.
  10. Decorate cookies with royal icing, allowing it to set before adding glitter or sprinkles.
