Chocolate Peppermint Bread

A delightful loaf that combines rich chocolaty goodness with refreshing peppermint, perfect for cozy winter nights and holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candies (for topping)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)
  • 23 tbsp milk (for icing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  3. Whisk together dry ingredients: flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together wet ingredients: vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, buttermilk, and peppermint extract.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Fold in mini chocolate chips.
  7. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
  8. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  10. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
  11. Mix powdered sugar with enough milk to reach drizzle consistency for icing.
  12. Drizzle icing over cooled bread and sprinkle with crushed peppermint candies.

Notes

For added decoration, sprinkle extra crushed peppermint on top before serving.
