  • 2 tbsp black cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Black food coloring (gel or paste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, black cocoa powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Mix in the buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. Add black food coloring to achieve desired shade.
  8. Divide the batter between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  9. Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting.
